Coming Soon: Safe House

Well here’s an original concept, albeit one Indie Horror Gamer isn’t quite sure what to make of.

A mysterious outbreak has made you (and presumably many others) hunt for a safe haven, and you’ve seemingly located the ideal spot. A converted garage, this small building contains a generator, workbench, bed and more; it’s the perfect place, in fact, to wait out the apocalypse. Only there’s a problem: there’s no food or medicine, meaning frequent trips into the hazardous outside world.

From the demo, it appears the entire game takes place within the eponymous building, with your scavenging hunts reduced to a written summation of their success. Raiders occasionally assault your base, leading you to don a gas mask as you frantically search for the air filter. Action is thin on the ground—this is more about the mounting tension, making critical and moral decisions, and ensuring you don’t starve before rescue comes. And should you trust that person who keeps calling you on the radio?

The work of developer Mike Hvll, Safe House’s demo is available now on Steam, while the full game is expected in the late summer. Stock up on those tinned goods and lock the doors, folks.
