Itch Terror: Pawn Shop
I was just thinking, ‘it’s a bit odd that a pawn shop needs to be open at night time,’ when my character, yet another night shift worker, declares ‘I still don’t understand why a pawn shop needs to be open all night.’
Well, indeed.
But, as it turns out, this particular neighbourhood likes to trade in their old VCRs and cameras in the small hours of the night. Fortunately, I’m open for business, deciding whether 60 bucks is too much or just right for that battered old video recorder.
Set in the 90s, Pawn Shop employs the common PlayStation-style view, a grainy display that suits the grimy, downbeat feel of this tense but short experience from Colourplay Games. It plays out over five game hours, culminating in an encounter with a less than wholesome individual. I’ll say no more.
Shoehorning in an impressive amount of jump scares and creepy moments in its short running time, Pawn Shop is recommended if you’re looking for a quick and easy horror to dip into. You can download it for free from Itch, but please try and send the developer some coins if you can. It’s worth it.
