We reviewed Huntsman back in February, and now developer OnTheHouse has kindly given us more spider-related horrors with this DLC.
In Protect & Serve, you’re a police officer, called in to investigate the events of the main game. As it directly follows those events, all the spiders in the main section of the building are dead, killed by the gas released by the player. But when you spot a door leading to another part of the facility, the nightmare begins all over again…
Protect & Serve is a short experience as the cop encounters a huge nest, guarded by several more Huntsman spiders. Naturally, you now have a gun, but killing a spider takes three shots so you’d better aim good—these arachnids are quick for their size.
Much of the tension of the original game is replicated here, and aside from the slightly tedious task of re-routing a series of pipes, the extra addition of a hardcore mode makes this good value for money.
What’s most exciting for us is that Huntsman’s developer is clearly focused on bringing out fresh eight-legged experiences. At just £3.59, Protect & Serve is a decent addition to this terrifying world.
Pros: More terrifying spider antics for fans of the original game; added combat and hardcore mode.
Cons: Assembling and rerouting gas pipes is about as exciting as it sounds.
CONCLUSION
A neat and good-value add-on for fans of the original.
