John Carpenter’s Antarctica-set classic The Thing is one of Indie Horror Gamer’s favourite movies. There’s something about the stark scenery and remoteness of the region that instils a deep feeling of fear and unease, so it was with no little excitement we downloaded the demo for this indie game from publisher Fellow Traveller.

However, as its name suggests, you’re not playing a hairy research scientist/helicopter pilot. Instead, it’s 1939, and the player is a penguin (or rather, penguins) curiously investigating the strange goings-on in their habitat.

Penguin Colony draws heavily on the aforementioned movie, combined with an otherworldly HP Lovecraft theme, twin influences that have got us very excited indeed.
