Coming Soon: The Last Keeper

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve had an unnatural fear of lighthouses. Why? Because of Doctor Who, of course! I watched the Tom Baker story, The Horror Of Fang Rock, at a very tender age, and it’s affected me ever since, not least because it has one of the show’s grimmest endings. So, show me a horror game set around a lighthouse and you’re on to a winner. I’m going to get goosebumps.

The Last Keeper is set on a remote island populated by just your character. The gameplay mixes the mundane—cleaning up mess, shovelling coal, catching fish—with the vital task of keeping both the island’s beacon and horn fully operational. Should either fail, there’s a high chance some poor passing ship will find itself crashing against the rocks.

Once night descends, your sole task is to keep that lighthouse running. But things start happening. A figure, hanging from a tree. Another by the supply hut. Or was it a shadow? Your mind playing tricks?

From its considerable demo, The Last Keeper looks to be a fascinating journey, with discarded notes revealing the travails of earlier lighthouse keepers. And what is behind that locked door in your home?

You can download the demo for The Last Keeper from Steam. Indie Horror Gamer shall continue to scan the horizon for the full game.
