Games that utilise players' system mics have been around a while, with releases such as A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead and Don't Scream. We remember it most famously from Alien Isolation, where the player's noise IRL can betray Ripley's location to the alien. It's a good way to make a stressful game almost unbearable.
Spiritus Sancti uses the microphone differently. Exorcism horrors seem to be in fashion at the moment (see our review of Peek), and once a ghost is located, it's deterred by reciting a series of incantations aloud. Do it correctly, and the spook retreats or is vanquished. Do it wrong and… well, put it this way: you don't get slimed.
It's not a game for the faint-hearted, and you probably sound a bit of a wally while playing it. But Spiritus Sancti has bags of potential, so here's hoping we see it sooner rather than later. Download the demo here, and keep tabs on Indie Horror Gamer for news.
