After experiencing terror recently during Night Plane’s demo, we’re back for more airborne horror, albeit in a decidedly different type of aerial adventure.

In a dark and dystopian future, a deadly fog covers the planet (or, at least, the segment you’re inhabiting), with humans living within a series of separate biomes. Communication towers connect them, each accessible only by air. As an engineer, it’s your vitally important job to fly from tower to tower, assessing any issues and correcting them, if you are able.

The Hollowing’s demo is brief, but it sets the mood and gives a clear idea of the gameplay on offer. Flight sim fans will no doubt find the streamlined plane controls a little too simplistic for their tastes, but they are easy to pick up, with the plane banking left and right, diving, climbing and gliding horizontally thanks to its rudders. On the ground, the player solves engineering and computer-based problems before refuelling and taking off again. It’s a fascinating combination of concepts.
