Itch Terror: Dead Trust

Developer: Hexnut Studios

Publisher: Hexnut Studios

Platform: PC

Release Date: Out Now

Dead Trust is an odd but enjoyable game, set over three distinct phases. You are Kevin, a home-alone teenager (ha!) living in an oddly deserted town. There’s also a maniac on the loose, the Blast Killer, who, as the name suggests, offs his victims with powerful explosives.

Segment one is set inside Kevin’s apartment as the teenager ventures out from his pit in search of food. Bizarrely, he microwaves some bread before heading out to the store, then meeting a friend for pizza. This fast-food restaurant serves as the setting for part two; there’s a jump scare or two, but nothing too taxing.

Then comes segment three.

Lured into a maze of back alleys and streets, Kevin becomes trapped during his journey home. As he frantically tries to find a way out, the crimson light and click-click of the Blast Killer’s bombs are never far away. Unable to fight back, all the teenager can do is run or hide as he searches for the items that’ll help him escape this suburban hell.

Dead Trust builds its tension well, with the player completing a few mundane tasks before being hit with the taut final part. Now, Kevin can finally sprint, but this quickly exhausts his stamina. It becomes a game of cat-and-mouse, conserving energy where you can before dashing off when you spot the Blast Killer approaching.

Currently at just one dollar to buy, Dead Trust is far from the longest horror game out there. But if you’re after a quick scare (it’s around 40 mins worth of gameplay) that delivers an effective coup-de-grace, you won’t go far wrong.
